ABOUT RACHEL E JONES, LPC

Education

I earned a Bachelor's in Psychology from Texas Sate University and a Master's of Education in Counseling from the University of Houston.

Experience

I have been providing counseling services since 2016. My experiences include working in outpatient, in-home and telehealth settings providing counseling services to children, adolescents, adults, and couples.

Professional Contributions

I have been involved in peer consultation groups and a part of professional organizations such as the Virginia Counselors Association, Houston Counseling Association, and Houston Licensed Professional Counseling Association. I have participated in volunteer events raising awareness for the mental health community. I am also registered through the National Board for Certified Counselor as a National Certified Counselor (NCC).

Philosophy of Practice

My personal belief is that everyone can use support, a place to define purpose and values, and tools to tackle life’s everyday difficulties. As humans, we often struggle with anxiety, depression, and problems in relationships. My goal is to walk with you through life’s challenges and to help you identify your strengths, develop self-compassion, as well as celebrate life’s successes!

Teenagers are at a crucial age where they simultaneously long for independence and belonging and have not yet formed a solid identity. By developing a strong therapeutic relationship with my adolescent clients and utilizing cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, and solution focused techniques, my goal is to help your adolescent thrive during life’s most difficult circumstances.

As an adult, who has had plenty of experience juggling the work, life, and school balance, I understand the difficulties that life can bring. I have a down-to-earth approach in order to meet each individual wherever they are in life. I am equipped in several different theoretical orientations and tailor my sessions to meet each individual client’s needs.

I utilize Gottman Method Couples Therapy when working with couples. Years of research by John and Julie Gottman have been put into developing this method which focuses on building friendship, learning to manage conflict in a healthy way, and developing shared meaning. I am also trained in Prepare Enrich for premarital counseling and premarital education.

I moved to Virginia in March 2020 from Houston, Texas right in the middle of the Pandemic. When I am not in session, I enjoy taking my dogs on walks and exploring all the great coffee shops and restaurants Richmond has to offer. I also enjoy spending time in the gym because I believe that exercise is a great tool that aids in the reduction of stress and anxiety. Self-care is extremely important to me and I advocate for all of my clients to take some time for themselves every day.

The idea of starting therapy can be scary. It is completely normal to feel nervous or anxious. My goal is to ease your nerves and help you see that although therapy can be difficult at times, it can also be very rewarding. I look forward to meeting and working with you to help you become the best version of you!
